Frequently asked questions about next-gen Arctis compatibility

What if I already own an Arctis?

An easy rule of thumb is that if your current Arctis already works with Xbox One or PlayStation 4, then it will be compatible with the respective next-gen console.

What if I'm experiencing audio glitches with my Arctis 9X on my Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S?

When using a headset with Xbox Wireless (such as the Arctis 9X), audio glitches can occur when the controller is idle for a period of time. This is a known issue between the Xbox Series X|S and the next-gen controller. Microsoft is currently working on a fix and will update the system when ready. In the meantime, a workaround is to use an Xbox One controller with the Series X|S.

Update: As of November 30th, 2020, Microsoft has released an update to the console that should fix this issue.

Which Arctis headsets work with Windows Sonic/Dolby Atmos/DTS Headphone:X on Series X|S?

Any Arctis headsets will work with these surround sound technologies on the next-gen Xbox. Note that Dolby and DTS features may require additional purchase.

Why does my headset sound different on PS5 than PS4?

The PS5 has its built-in 3D Audio enabled by default. This provides simulated surround sound for headphones/headsets, but it also colors the sound of the audio. To disable 3D Audio, go to:
Settings -> Sound -> Audio Output -> Enable 3D Audio

USB volume lower on PS5 than PS4?

When you first connect a headset to the PS5, the volume is set to about 80%. To increase, go to:
Settings -> Sound -> Volume -> Headphones

How can I adjust ChatMix for my Arctis on PS5?

The PS5 has a built-in adjustment for balancing game and chat audio, which you can access from your controller:

  • Press the PS button to bring up the quick menu
  • Sound -> Voice chat balance

The PS5 doesn't have an optical audio output. How do I connect my Arctis Pro Wireless or GameDAC?

You can simply connect USB from the Arctis Pro Wireless or GameDAC to the PS5. Set the input of the headset to PS4 via the OLED screen menu (a PS5 input mode will be available for your Arctis in a future firmware update).

Can I use my Arctis Pro Wireless or GameDAC on PS5 without updating firmware?

Yes! The upcoming firmware update adds a PS5 input mode for convenience, but is not required. Both headsets have full compatibility with the PS5 simply by using the PS4 input mode selected on your OLED screen.

Which Arctis headsets work with the PS5 3D Audio?

Any headset that connects to the controller via 3.5mm or to the console via USB can take advantage of the PS5's built-in 3D audio. Check our PlayStation headsets page for our top picks.

We hope this list helps you rest assured with your next-gen console and audio decisions. We'll update this list as additional products launch.
