Our suggestions for games you can play with others this holiday season should help you kickstart any get-together.
It's already December, and no, we can't believe it either. The year has positively flown by, so quickly that we're still trying to process how most of the biggest games of 2021 have already debuted. It's time to look ahead to all the fun holiday parties we're either going to be attending or planning, and if you're anything like we are, that also means choosing the perfect video games to take to these gatherings with family and friends. Need some help choosing the best games to play at your holiday gatherings this year? We've got you covered with some great picks of our own. Whether you like irreverent minigames or you're more of a board game person, these picks should satisfy you and anyone you're entertaining this year.
Mario Party Superstars
If you're a fan of the classic Mario Party games, you're probably not enthused by the idea of having to drag them out along with the Nintendo 64 and GameCube to play them. Now you don't have to! With Mario Party Superstars, you can play five classic boards from the Nintendo 64 Mario Party entries, and compete in 100 different minigames throughout the series. You can play together in the same living room, or you can even take the party online to play with friends who aren't near you. It supports Joy-Con controllers, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and even the Nintendo Switch Lite. Gather your friends and family in the living room and compete to become the Superstar. But be forewarned: like in Mario Kart, you may soon find your friendships tested.
WarioWare: Get It Together
The WarioWare games have always been about hilarious microgames and trying to understand them in seconds. This installment is the most inclusive yet, as it not only comes with 200 lightning-fast minigames, but you can play them with friends, letting others in on the minigames to control their own characters with different abilities. It's the coolest WarioWare yet, and the first title to hit the Nintendo Switch. You may have played the games before, but never like this where you don't have to switch off controllers or wait your turn. Everyone can play at once to tackle the microgames as they come one by one, fast and furious! It's a great way to get everyone awake, out of their seat, and start ringing in the holiday season.
Just Dance 2022
There's nothing better about good music and a dance floor when it comes to parties. You can make your living room the perfect dance floor and invite your crew to show off their moves with Just Dance 2022. Groove along to songs like Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever", Olivia Rodrigo's "Good 4 U", and Dua Lipa's "Levitating" by following along with the colorful dancers on screen. You can use your controllers, or you can have everyone else sign in with their phones, then shake it all night. You can choose from a variety of tunes, difficulties, and learn some truly cool choreography as you delve further into the world of Just Dance. Just remember though, that you're going to have to take some time to rest sometime. There are gifts to wrap and holiday treats to eat.
The Jackbox Party Pack 8
Jackbox is the brains behind the fantastic trivia series You Don't Know Jack. They're also responsible for some of the most hilarious games you'll have ever played with a group: Drawful, where everyone tries to draw something and usually fails miserably, Job Job, making unique answers to job interview questions, Weapons Drawn, where you work to solve a murder mystery, and more. Everyone can play with their phones, and you can even invite others to the game online via stream with remote players. It's a fun, massive get together that everyone will want to get in on, and you'll be laughing all night.
Halo Infinite Multiplayer
Halo multiplayer is the stuff of legend. It's been bringing friends and family together by LAN parties for years, since its inception two decades ago. Fire up some casual games of Halo Infinite's free multiplayer mode, and you'll find everyone gravitating to the living room, because how could they not? This is always a great choice to fall back on. Just make sure no one leaves games because they want to rage quit. You don't want an accidental ban, after all. It's the holiday season!
