The Best FPS Games of 2021

Check out some of the best shooters that 2021 had to offer.

When it comes to gaming, sometimes you just need to let off some steam. You can do just that with first-person shooters. In fact, FPS games may very well be the best genre to seek out if you need to just take out your anger on a bunch of NPCs. Luckily, 2021 was rife with some fantastic shooters, both old and new. While you can probably guess the ones we selected as our favorites, if you're looking for some truly fantastic shooters to round out your 2021, these are the best that this year had to offer.

Halo Infinite

At last, the newest installment in the long-running Halo series is here, and it doesn't disappoint. It brings back everything you love about Halo and more, from a stacked campaign to free-to-play multiplayer that anyone can jump into and play, even without purchasing the game. It brings the familiar, tight gunplay, exciting story, and Master Chief back to the forefront, as well as a reason to jump back into the lore once more. Love hopping into a vehicle and gunning down Grunts? Infinite has that. Want to run around slaying Elites with an energy sword? This entry has that too. It's like Halo never left, and coming back to Infinite feels like returning home.

Call of Duty: Vanguard

Another year, another Call of Duty may be our annual mantra, but these shooters are consistently great. Vanguard is no different. This World War II shooter from Sledgehammer Games offers an inventive alternate history timeline with a campaign that spans the globe and focuses on the Pacific theater. It's a non-stop action thriller with an equally exciting multiplayer component. With its release, the free-to-play Warzone transformed into a completely different map, with a variety of ways for players to interact with the battleground. It is, as always, a blockbuster master class in first-person shooter creation. We can't wait to see the next installment.

Back 4 Blood

Valve has made it pretty clear we aren't getting Left 4 Dead 3. But why would we need it when Turtle Rock Studios, many of the same developers that brought us the Left 4 Dead series, have given us something equally awesome? This shooter pits survivors against a host of zombie creatures that are out to gobble up brains. Your job? Make your way through the hordes and stay alive. It offers a multiplayer mode rife with addictive progression mechanics, a full-fledged campaign mode, and a familiar feeling that will make anyone who's ever stayed up all night trying to get that elusive "Cr0wnd!" Achievement feel like they've time traveled back to a time when Left 4 Dead was one of the coolest shooters you could possibly play.
