While we anxiously await the next Grand Theft Auto edition, the over-decade-old GTA 5 is still going strong. And for those of us still hanging with Michael, Trevor, and Franklin or exploring the streets of Los Santos online, we still want to know: What is the fastest car in GTA 5?

With over 768 vehicles available in the game, there’s a lot to choose from. But we’ve broken it down to the best of the best. Check out some of the fastest cars in GTA 5 as of 2025 and see how they perform, where to get them, and whether they’re worth the cash.

Fastest Vehicles By Top Speed (With HSW Upgrade)

Hao’s Special Works (HSW) upgrades were first introduced to GTA Online in 2022 as part of the next-gen update for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This was tied to the “Expanded & Enhanced” edition of GTA V, bringing graphics improvements and new content with it.

Perhaps most notably, it introduced HSW performance upgrades for select vehicles, HSW time trials, and a new auto shop location at the LS Car Meet. This new location allows you to upgrade your vehicles with modifications, boosting speed, acceleration, and handling. This is why HSW-tuned vehicles are some of the fastest cars you can get in the game. These cars come with some hefty price tags, even without the HSW upgrades. So you’ll need to make money in GTA Online.

And if you’re playing on PC or an older console model, don’t worry. These updates were finally made available in March 2025. Here’s the most current and updated list for anyone playing GTA 5 online.

1. The Bravado Banshee GTS

Top Speed: 172.50 mph (277.61 km/h)

Class: Sports Car

Drivetrain: Rear-Wheel Drive

Base Model Price: $$1,989,500

HSW Upgrade Cost: $950,000

Where to Buy: Legendary Motorsport

The Banshee GTS takes the number one spot in terms of speed when equipped with HSW upgrades. This sports car is based on the real-life Dodge Viper GTS VX model and was added as part of the Agents of Sabotage update.

This pinnacle of speed also offers a wide array of customization options in both explosive resistance, visual options, and armor enhancements. However, it’s worth noting that the Banshee GTS isn’t compatible with Imani Tech upgrades like missile lock-on jammers.

The car goes 0-60 very quickly and is among the top tier in acceleration for the sports class of vehicles. The handling of this vehicle is a mix of strengths and weaknesses. It feels agile at high speeds, especially on straights, but tends to be tail-happy and prone to oversteer when cornering at speed or navigating tight tracks.

2. The Grotti Itali GTO Stinger TT

Top Speed with HSW Upgrade: 168 mph (270.37 km/h)

Class: Sports Car

Drivetrain: Rear-Wheel Drive

Price: $2,380,000

HSW Upgrade Cost: $1,418,000

Where to Buy: Legendary Motorsport

The Stinger TT is a premier sports car that was added in 2023 as part of the San Andreas Mercenaries update. It seemingly sources inspiration from the 202 Ferrari Roma and combines its beautiful, sleek design with high-performance capabilities. With the HSW upgrade, it is made to be one of the fastest cars in GTA Online.

The Stinger is compatible with Imani Tech for added protection and versatility through the Missile Lock-On Jammer and Remote Control Unit. It can also be installed with full armor, withstanding up to 12 homing missiles, 4 RPGs, or 10 explosive rounds from the Heavy Sniper MK II. Additional upgrades are also available for the engine, brakes, transmission, and turbo to boost overall performance, making it perhaps the best car in the game overall.

3. The Übermacht Niobe

With the HSW upgrades, the Niobe outperforms many vehicles across different classes in GTA Online. This vehicle draws visual inspiration from the BMW i8, combining sleek design with impressive speeds. This car excels not only in speed, but also performs well in the acceleration and handling categories.

The Übermacht Niobe is an all-around great choice for races and high-speed chases. While this sports car isn’t bulletproof, it can be fitted with armor upgrades to enhance durability against collisions and gunfire. You can also make visual customizations with an array of colors, rims, and tire options.

4. The Vigero ZX

Top Speed: 158 mph (254 km/h)

Class: Muscle Car

Drivetrain: Rear-Wheel Drive

Price: $1,947,000

HSW Upgrade Cost: $550,000

Where to Buy: Southern San Andreas Super Autos

The Vigero ZX is the fastest of the muscle car class in GTA V online overall. Its looks are likened to the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro and combines classic muscle car aesthetics with modern performance enhancements.

While handling features are simply okay, the Vigero HSW upgrade boosts acceleration and speed with the HSW upgrade. This model can be upgraded as ZX or a convertible variant. The Vigero can also be installed with Imani Tech, like the lock-on jammer and explosive resistance, but it is not bulletproof.

With its upgraded stats and Imani Tech, the Vigero ZX is a formidable choice for both races and high-speed pursuits.

5. The Karin S95

Top Speed: 156.5 mph (252 km/h)

Class: Sports Car

Drivetrain: Rear-Wheel Drive

Base Price: $1,995,000

HSW Upgrade Cost: $525,000

Where to Buy: Southern San Andreas Super Autos

If a Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ were to have a baby, it would be the Karin S95. This car sees a significant improvement in top speed and a moderate improvement in acceleration with the HSW upgrade. Handling also noticeably stabilizes at high speeds, but remains less responsive during lower-speed city driving.

The Karin S95 also offers extensive customization options for both visual modifications and performance upgrades. Additionally, returning players from previous console generations can access the car with HSW upgrades for free when they access the LS Car Meet.

How to Access HSW Upgrades

To access Hao's Special Works (HSW) Upgrades in GTA Online, you'll need to meet a few requirements and complete an intro mission. Here’s how to unlock the HSW Upgrades.

  1. Go to Cypress Flats in Los Santos.

  2. Enter the LS Car Meet and purchase a membership for $50,000.

  3. After joining, wait for Hao to contact you with an offer for a specific test ride in an HSW-upgraded vehicle.

  4. Complete the HSW Time Trial. Don’t worry, it’s not too hard, it’s just about getting from point A to point B within the (generous) time limit.

  5. Once you’ve completed the time trial, the HSW upgrades are available for eligible vehicles. To upgrade one, take a compatible vehicle to the LS Car Meet Mod Shop (or Hao’s Garage on the map) and upgrade it.

While HSW vehicles cost a pretty penny, they come with huge performance boosts like top speed, handling, and acceleration. After upgrading a vehicle, you can start installing HSW-exclusive modes, including unique transmissions, turbo capabilities, improved suspensions, and liveries.

Fastest Car in GTA 5 Story Mode

While we’ve named the fastest cars in the game as of 2025, it’s important to note that the HSW upgrades are not available during story mode. If you’re looking for the fastest car Trevor, Michael, and Franklin have access to, check this vehicle out:

The Truffade Adder

Top Speed: ~125 mph (201 km/h)

Class: Sports Car

Drivetrain: All-Wheel Drive

Price: $1,000,000

Where to Buy: Legendary Motorsport

The Truffade Adder is based on the Bugatti Veyron and has the highest top speed in story mode. It becomes available early on if you have enough in-game cash or are lucky enough to “borrow” one you find in Rockford Hills outside Portola Drive near Ponsonbys.

Speed Isn’t Everything – But It Sure Helps

Whether you're chasing top speeds or seeking the perfect balance between power and control, GTA 5 Online offers plenty of options for the ultimate driving experience. From the HSW-upgraded Bravado Banshee GTS to the agile Itali GTO Stinger TT, the fastest cars can give you an edge in races and high-speed pursuits.

HSW upgrades unlock an entirely new layer of performance, but remember: speed isn't everything. The right car for the job depends on your race type and playstyle, so experiment with different builds and handling setups.

Racing through Los Santos is even better when you can hear every engine rev, tire screech, and police siren in crystal-clear detail. The SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless delivers premium sound, active noise cancellation, and all-day comfort — making it the perfect headset for your next high-speed getaway.

Fastest Cars in GTA 5: FAQs

Are HSW-upgraded cars faster than regular cars in GTA 5 Online?

Yes, HSW upgrades significantly boost a vehicle’s top speed, acceleration, and overall performance. These upgrades can turn already-fast cars into the fastest in the game. For example, the Bravado Banshee GTS with HSW reaches a top speed of 172.50 mph, far outpacing its standard counterpart.

Is the fastest car worth the money in GTA 5?

If you're into high-speed driving, racing, or collecting top-tier vehicles, then yes, the fastest car is absolutely worth the investment. While cars like the Banshee GTS or Itali GTO Stinger TT are pricey (especially with HSW upgrades), they offer elite performance and strong resale value. Just keep in mind that speed alone doesn't guarantee success in all missions or races — handling, durability, and versatility matter, too.

Is the fastest car good for races or just speed?

It depends on the race. The fastest car, like the HSW Banshee GTS, dominates in straight-line speed and long-track events, but it may struggle on tight, technical circuits due to its tail-happy handling. If you're serious about racing, you'll want a mix of speed, handling, and traction, and sometimes, that means choosing a slightly slower car that's easier to control.
