The Best Games To Play This Fall

These are some of the best games to enjoy now that fall is settling in.

Fall is in the air. It's hard to believe, but there's a chill in the air, the days are getting shorter, and the end of the year is nigh. What better time to jump into some great games that "understand the assignment," so to speak? If you're ready to ring in the season and watching the leaves turn or carving pumpkins isn't doing much for you, then why not see the best of what fall has to offer by playing these great fall-flavored games? Here are our picks for some of the best games to play this fall.

Life is Strange

Max Caulfield might seem like a normal, everyday high school student, but she's hiding an incredible secret: she can rewind time. In Dontnod's touching, narrative-driven adventure Life is Strange, we get to know Max, her life in the beautiful town of Arcadia Bay, and the secrets of her past -- including her relationship with her best friend Chloe. Fall sets in during the game, and it punctuates some of its most colorful moments. The game will break your heart, sure, but fall might very well be the best time to experience heartbreak. And you'll fall hard for Life is Strange's colorful cast. It's a great time to play this first entry, too, because Life is Strange: True Colors just hit the scene and it's going to be another exciting entry.

What Remains of Edith Finch

This macabre narrative from Giant Sparrow is a collection of unique tales that explore the Washington-based Finch family. They've all met with horrible fates, which you as Edith Finch will uncover as you make your way through the game. But the dark, spooky nature of each family member's passing feels a lot like a Halloween tale, and you'll know exactly what you mean when you jump in and give the game a try.

Firewatch

One look at Campo Santo's Firewatch and that should communicate just about everything you need to know about this game. It's gorgeous, drenched in ambers and crimsons, the same you see dotting the trees around you when fall is finally here. It's also a bit of a somber adventure that'll leave you thinking long after the credits roll. As you get to know fire lookout Henry as he works in the Shoshone National Forest, you'll take in the game's natural beauty and follow through a tale that feels just as autumnal as the crisp breeze that greets you when you open your door.

A Short Hike

A Short Hike is just as relaxing as it sounds, as you take on the role of a young bird named Claire. She likes to spend time at Hawk Peak Provincial Park, a gorgeous summer park where she travels to the summit as she waits for an important call. You can enjoy the golden grass, the breezy weather, and the gorgeous surroundings as you make your way up the mountain as Claire. It's much like spending time doing the same thing in real life, and just as crisp as the first real fall day. It's a short but sweet treat that you'll want to experience again and again.
