Dive into the brand-new Housing experience in World of Warcraft; a quick guide to common Neighborhood and Housing questions.

Player housing is at last coming to World of Warcraft! Available now to those who purchase the Epic Edition of World of Warcraft: Midnight, you can get into Housing early. If you prefer to wait, Housing will be available to everyone in Midnight and will have some more fully fleshed out features.

Let's cover the basics of Housing in WoW and answer some common questions you might have about Housing when you're getting ready to settle into your dream house.

WoW Housing Tutorial and Overview

The official video from Blizzard gives pretty good coverage on how to dive into Housing; however, if you have specific questions on it, we will lay them out in a useful FAQ below and some info we have gathered beyond this video.

The video does a good job demonstrating how to actually place objects; for the most part, it's pretty self-explanatory. Just keep in mind that

Keep in mind that the video is from an "early access" version of Housing in The War Within and some things are subject to change. More on that below.

WoW Housing FAQ and Tips

How do I make a neighborhood with my friends?

These may not be available yet. They're called charter neighborhoods, which can be found by a group of 10 players. They do not have to be in a guild. Go speak to the Neighborhood Steward to start this.

Initially, public and guild neighborhoods are available. The charter neighborhoods will be available at a later time or when Midnight launches; it is not specified.

When will Blood Elf and Night Elf-type houses be available?

Blood Elf and Night Elf exteriors, or house styles, aren't available initially. They will be added when the 12.0 patch drops, close to the Midnight launch (March 2nd, 2026).

I lost the quest to start my first House.

Click on the new Housing Dashboard that is now part of the menus usually found on the bottom right (among Quests, Talents, etc.). That is the new menu where you can start looking for a neighborhood to plop your house down.

Can I move my house?

Yes, you can move your house for free. You can move your house to a different neighborhood at any time. The assumption is that you will have to pay for the plot. Note that the first time you buy a plot, it's free.

What happens to my house if I don't log into WoW for a long time?

Even if your subscription to WoW lapses, your house will remain in its location. However, if a long enough time passes, your house will go into storage. At the moment, it's not actually defined as to what that time would be.

Feasibly, this might be more of a concern for Public Neighborhoods. In guild ones, this time might not be as relevant. The assumption is that Blizzard needs to see how impactful the housing feature will be on the servers and whether empty houses sitting around for years will impact maintenance.

At the very least, you will never lose your house completely, even if you lose your plot. The safest option, if you go on long breaks, may be to have a house with a guild.

What are Endeavors and how does housing progression work?

This is a sort or progression or "Renown" track for your neighborhoods. During Early Access of housing, you can only reach up to level 6. Leveling up will increase housing limitations and unlock additional rewards.

Endeavors are going to be neighborhood-wide events that will involve various tasks and rewards. For example, there will be a Gnome-themed endeavor or a Val'sharah endeavor with a Nightmare Tree. Expect to see various seasonal and lore-themed events with activities to do, per the Blizzard usual.

Can I have a Horde house if I have an Alliance house?

Yes, you can have a house in both factions in WoW, whether you already have a Horde house or an Alliance house. Simply purchase a house with that corresponding character in a zone that's appropriate to that faction.

How can I plan out a WoW neighborhood with my guild or friends?

There's a great tool for WoW neighborhood planning called WoW Audit. Log in with your Battle.net account and find your guild/character. There you can see a map and plot out the spots. There are also useful guild organizational tools too.

But this is an awesome way to plan out or claim spots before even having to log in to the game.

How can I get more housing items and decoration in WoW?

Through crafting and vendors, you can get more decor. Blizzard posted an initial list of crafting recipes for Housing, which includes every profession and covers every era.

Various vendors around the world also have items for sale, many gated behind achievements.

More WoW Housing tips

YouTuber The Drowsy Dragon posted an excellent housing guide with more tips. You can really get creative with objects to make something unusual out of them, like a toilet or musical instruments. You can also hide a tiny chair inside other objects to allow sitting on them. r/WoWHousing is also a great spot to see what other people have created and draw inspiration.
