SteelSeries Launches Global $100,000.00 USD Initiative For Esport Growth

SteelSeries, a leading manufacturer of innovative professional gaming gear, today announced the launch of the SteelSeries eSports Foundation. The newly formed SteelSeries eSports Foundation carries a $100,000.00 USD backing and will help grow relevant eSports initiatives on a global basis.

SteelSeries has been an active element in the growth of competitive gaming and eSports since its inception in 2001 and has over the years helped fund travel expenses and financial burdens for some of the world’s best players and teams, including SK Gaming, Team 3D, compLexity, wNv Gaming, mousesports, PGS Gaming, Ninjas in Pyjamas, The Titans, Destination Skyline, Four Kings and many more. Today SteelSeries supports more than 200 teams worldwide, with support ranging from financial aid to receiving award-winning professional gaming gear from SteelSeries.

On a global scale more than 5.000 LAN-events has been supported by SteelSeries over the past five years, ranging from small local events with 50 attendees to major international grand-slams like The CPL, WSVG, WCG and WEG. SteelSeries eSports Foundation aims to help grow and promote eSports all over the world, by supporting some of the many local eSports initiatives that are being launched every year.

“As eSport continues to grow and gain momentum all over the world, it is vital that gamers can constantly engage in well-planned, well-funded and well-organized tournaments and events. And it is the goal of SteelSeries eSports Foundation to help facilitate this,” says Jacob Wolff-Petersen, Founder of SteelSeries. “We’re already spending a lot of resources on helping teams accomplish their goals, now we’re ramping up our efforts on the tournament/events/activity side as well.”

“Having a passion and a love for a game will only get you so far. Ask any gamer who has ever participated in a tournament without receiving their prizes and winnings, and they will tell you it can obliterate their interest in competitive gaming.” says Kim Rom    , Marketing Director for SteelSeries. “Hopefully this initiative will not only help eSport grow but also prevent some of these unfortunate events from happening.”

Organizers of LAN-events and other tournaments should submit applications, including event/tournament descriptions, background information and an overview of previously organized events to sef@steelseries.com. Support will range from financial support to prizes consisting of products from the SteelSeries product line.
